Japan’s SOHLA (Space Oriented Higashiosaka Leading Association) has announced that they will be launching a $10.5-million humanoid robot named “Maido-kun” to the moon by 2015. The robot is currently being developed with the Space Exploration Agency of Japan (JAXA). Continue reading to see some JAXA-shot moon footage from the far side.

Oh sure, there’s little reason to send a wobbling two-legged robotic rover to the crater-pocked face of the moon when four-on-the-floor would be much more practical — other than it’s awesome.
