Limited to 200-units and available exclusively in Japan, the Kirin Electric Salt Spoon, first unveiled years ago, is set to finally go on sale. This $126 USD spoon utilizes an innovative current waveform technology that enhances the saltiness of bland foods by approximately 1.5 times.
Technically speaking, a weak electric current flows from the tip of the spoon into the food, resulting in a touch of simulated saltiness. Since being introduced, the spoon has been improved upon by engineers so that it can be used naturally at the dinner table, rather than it appearing more of a lab device. Put simply, it has been designed with a focus on ergonomics and durability. There’s no word yet on when they plan to release the next batch or if it will be released in other countries.
