LEGO Ideas The Legend of Zelda Set Nintendo Licensing
LEGO Ideas announced today that it will no longer be accepting The Legend of Zelda submissions due to Nintendo licensing issues, which rules out future Tears of the Kingdom sets for good. Unfortunately, this means that many sets in the final stages with 10,000 votes, like the Hyrule Castle 30th Anniversary (above), will not get approval.

On the bright side, this only appears to be limited to The Legend of Zelda intellectual property and not everything Nintendo, as they are still releasing official Super Mario Bros. sets. Should the licensing issues get worked out in the future, we expect at least one official set, possibly even Tears of the Kingdom-themed, to be released before any new LEGO Ideas sets are accepted.

A ‘LEGO Review Board’ composed of designers, product managers, and other key team members will examine the idea. We’ll build concept models and determine if the concept meets our high standards for what it takes to be a LEGO product. This includes factors such as playability, safety, and fit with the LEGO brand. Every potential LEGO product goes through a process like this and must meet the same standards,” said the company.
