CES 2021 is just around the corner, January 11-14, 2021 to be exact, but unlike previous years, this show will be completely digital. However, that doesn’t mean it’s going to lack any innovation. LG has already teased one of its showcases, their transparent OLED screens, specifically the 55-inch panel. How does it work? Well, each screen has two layers of glass on both sides of a set of addressable LEDs, thus allowing the viewer to see through the panel. This transparent OLED window on a subway train can be used to show the various routes, current weather, real-time news and even maps of the city, all the while letting commuters look outside. LG also plans to showcase this technology being used in a sushi restaurant, enabling the customers and the chef to interact by selecting menu items. Video can also be played while they wait for their food. Where else can transparent OLEDs be used? Smart beds, and the company is going to debut one at CES 2021 with a panel that rises out of the frame at the foot of the bed.
