
A Tesla coil is basically an electrical resonant transformer circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891, and used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity. Modern high-voltage enthusiasts usually build Tesla coils similar to some of Tesla’s “later” 2-coil air-core designs. This is what happens when you take a long-exposure photo of one of these coils in-action. That is just one of the many simple, yet oddly satisfying, things that have gone viral on the internet.
