Former NASA engineer turned YouTuber Mark Rober teamed up with a few of his friends to see who could come up with an ingenious method for shooting a drone out of the sky. Kevin Kohler of Backyard Scientist decided to use the world’s largest vortex cannon, and let’s just say the results were explosive.
What you may not know is that the Vortex Ring Accelerator (VRAD) cannons was initially designed to scare birds away on a 300 acre pistachio orchard near Bakersfield, California. Put simply, it generates a vortex ring that acts as a projectile traveling through the air and may actually hit birds, but without harming them. The guys also tried using a tesla coil / electric goo creation to zap drones out of the sky, and things got a bit messy to say the least.
