Excavators are nothing new, but the Menzi Muck walking excavators are definitely some of the world’s craziest, the 545x in particular. Featuring a sophisticated high-tech chassis with various hydraulic cylinders that enable the all-rounder to adapt its wheels and supports to any terrain. In some parts of the world, it’s known as a spider excavator. Read more for a video of it in-action and additional information.
The Menzi Muck 545x boasts a Smooth Vx-Drive that can travel up to 15 km/h, P-Vation parallel stabilizers, four equally sized wheels up to a width of 800 mm, mountain stabilizers (optional front and/or rear), and a weight capacity of over 13,500 kg. How much does one of these beasts costs? Well, there’s no price listed on the website, though we did come across a used 2006 Menzi Muck A91 that will set you back a cool $99,000. So, it’s only safe to assume that this latest model costs many times that amount.
