Could a social media network for pets be coming soon? Technically, there have been many over the years, but none have really yet caught on, that is unless Meta’s Petbook changes that. Meta filed for the ‘Petbook’ trademark on May 24, 2021 in Mexico at the Instituto Mexicano de la Propiedad Industrial (IMPI) and shortly after, with the European Union Intellectual Property Network (EUIPN). Mexico classified this application as Class 45, with the concise description of ‘online social media services’. No other information was revealed in the filing, although this trademark filing could also be just to prevent competitors from creating a social media service for pets. Whatever the case may be, they will have no trouble getting beta testers for its new service, thanks to Facebook’s 2.9-billion monthly active users.
