Microsoft announced Gears of War Reloaded today, a fully remastered version of the 2006 Gears of War game, set to come out on August 26, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox PC, Xbox Cloud Gaming, PlayStation 5, and Steam, priced at $39.99. It’ll also be available on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass from day one.
Made by The Coalition with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief, it celebrates the game’s 20th anniversary in 2026, bringing the famous third-person shooter to new players with big upgrades. It has 4K resolution with refreshed textures and assets, campaign modes running at 60 FPS (multiplayer up to 120 FPS), and supports HDR, Dolby Vision, 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos, and 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio.

There are no loading screens in the campaign, making gameplay smooth. It includes everything from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, plus extra DLC like a bonus campaign act, all multiplayer maps, modes, and unlockable characters or cosmetics, all free.
For multiplayer and co-op, the campaign supports two-player co-op (on the same screen or online), and Versus Multiplayer allows up to eight players. There’s full cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms, so you can play with friends on any device and keep your progress across them. A Microsoft account is optional but helps with full cross-platform features.
The game sticks to the original story, following Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad on the planet Sera, fighting the Locust Horde to save humanity. It focuses on cover-based fighting, using the famous Lancer Assault Rifle (with a chainsaw bayonet) and the Active Reload mechanic, which makes reloading faster and increases damage if timed right but can jam the gun if you miss the timing.
