Minesto’s Dragon 12 tidal energy kite successfully delivered electricity to the national grid in the Faroe Islands. This massive 12-meter wide and 28-ton heavy sub-sea kite is anchored with a tether to the seabed and then steered in an 8-shaped flight trajectory powered by the tidal flow.
Dragon 12 is approximately a 10-times scale-up (from the existing 100 kW Dragon 4) that provides competitive performance as well as cost-levels for build-out of large-scale commercial sub-sea parks of tidal powerplants. The tidal kite will provide power to the 55,000 people that live on the archipelago.
