Building a modern Apple iPod with USB-C may sound simple enough, but there are a few things that make the project more technical than you think. Zachary Matchett-Smith of Zac Builds managed to get his hands on a fifth-generation iPod and decided to modernize it to show just what goes into such a project.
First, he had to disassemble the iPod, which involved disconnecting some ribbon cables, removing random parts, and then separating the original screen. Next, the original case was swapped out for a transparent version, complete with a new click wheel. The old screen went next, before the factory hard drive got an SD card upgrade. An Oxyll USB-C mod isn’t something that just anyone can install, as it requires some soldering.

I honestly preferred having one of those Creative Zen MP3 players because they functioned like a drive and made adding music to them, way easier. I hated dealing with iTunes on an iPod,” said one commenter.
