Modos Paper Monitor
There’s the Eazeye Radiant, and then the all-new Modos Paper Monitor, an open-hardware 13.3″ (1600 x 1200) monochrome or color e-ink monitor with a fast 60 Hz refresh rate, low latency, multiple image modes / dithering options, and flexible screen update control.

It’s compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux platforms, with both HDMI as well as USB-C inputs. What sets Modos apart from other portable monitors is its Driver Board with a Xilinx Spartan-6 LX16 FPGA that runs the Caster display controller software. This means four different display modes including a “hybrid mode” that automatically switches between 16-Level grayscale and binary mode depending on page movement. A Crowd Supply crowdfunding campaign is set to go live soon. There’s no word yet on pricing.

Modos Paper Monitor

This product is the result of a journey that began in February 2021. Like many others, I found myself spending over 12 hours a day in front of a computer or digital screen. My days were filled with supporting students, attending meetings, reading documentation, learning, and programming. By the end of the day, my eyes felt strained, and I was tired and distracted,” said Alexander Soto, Modos Founder.
