Public transportation in rural communities can be improved upon in many ways, including with projects like MONOCAB-OWL. It consists of autonomous transportation pods that make use of old railway tracks in a manner similar to that of the monorail system.
The pods are designed to hold between four- to six-passengers and run off a battery-electric powertrain. A gyroscopic system helps the pods self-balance on just a single rail, leaving the other one free for other Monocabs to travel in the other direction. Prototypes are currently being tested in Germany, but the company expects a full-scale system to enter service by 2028.
- Speed & Range: The Gokart PRO reaches 23 mph and has a 15.5-mile range on one charge.
- Powerful Performance: Features a rear-wheel drive with 4,800W power and 96N torque for quick acceleration.
- Safety First: Built with a high-strength steel frame, supports up to 220 lbs, and includes triple anti-collision protection.

Flexible rail-based mobility concepts with service-on-demand on reactivated lines could provide a connection to transport hubs in medium-sized centers,” said Thorsten Försterling, Project founder.
