NASA James Webb Space Telescope LEGO Ideas
Playing DOOM on a LEGO brick is one thing, recreating NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) in LEGO is an entirely different story. The real-life JWST os so large that it needed to be folded to fit within the rocket and unfolded after it was launched into space. This LEGO recreation also folds into a stowed position for launch, complete with all of the major moving components.

Not just a simple LEGO model, this boasts a curved primary mirror consisting of 18 movable hexagonal segments as well as its hinged secondary mirror. That’s not all, it includes the major subsystems including the science instruments, and the propulsion, power, and communications subsystems. It needs 10,000 votes to be considered for a real LEGO Ideas set, so get your vote in here.

I am an astronomer and I am amazed at the complexity of JWST. There are so many moving parts and systems that all have to operate together to make the telescope work. I wanted to build a model to help others appreciate this incredible machine,” said its creator.
