OKA Mori Mushroom Robot Lamp
OKA calls it Mori, and its roughly twelve-inch appearance resembles a mushroom-shaped table lamp that wandered in from a forest clearing rather than any robot most people have seen. A rounded, lighting cap rests above a plush wool-blend torso, and when the head lifts, a pair of active eyes appear, as does a small diamond-shaped nose holding a camera.

Company founders Hua Wang and Weizhe Chen describe Mori as the first of just five planned ‘artifacts’ aimed at reversing the influence of digital gadgets that lure people away from their surroundings. Wang spent years creating apps and platforms that captured your full attention. Now he wonders if technology can bring back some of that. Mori’s solution eliminates standard panels, voice responses, and automated assistant capabilities like music playback, weather updates, and smart light activation. What you do get is a sense of presence that varies according on where you are.

Attentive Intelligence uses local models to process photos and audio on the device and then discards the raw files. The system identifies when someone enters the room, when the music starts, or when there is an extended period of silence. A brief tap of the fingers turns off the microphones, and you may move the head back to cover the camera. Any facial data is encrypted and never sent anywhere else. Mori gradually learns familiar faces from visitors and may become shyer with strangers or more familiar with everyday routines. An internal condition known as VIBE, which stands for vitality, interaction, bonding, and emotion, alters the energy of those responses, so the same greeting can feel exuberant one afternoon and calm the next.

Nature is at the heart of the intended use. Mori can summon rain, woodland, or campfire soundtracks, as well as corresponding light shifts, when you touch the form, or guide you through a short breathing exercise. Alternatively, it might simply guide you through a rapid breathing session. The same sensors let it to bob along to music, detect activity on a nearby screen, or simply stand motionless when the room is quiet. Battery power allows the device to be moved from desk to shelf without a cord, and the company notes that future upgrades may include connectivity to other devices.

Founder Edition units sold for $649 in a run of a few hundred pieces and included two years of the nature-sound subscription plus hardware coverage. Standard preorders sit near eight hundred dollars, with a later retail price expected higher still. Breathing guidance comes free; the richer nature scenes require the subscription. Delivery estimates for early buyers stretched into late December.
