Ploopy has just launched the smallest trackball mouse device you’ll actually use. The Nano 2 retains the original’s palm-sized design, but adds one button that feels like a secret handshake with your cursor. Roll the 38mm ball with your thumb, and the pointer will travel exactly where you desire. Holding the button causes pages to scroll as smoothly as a wheel. When you release, you’re back in control of your aim. There are no unnecessary clicks or clutter—only one switch that you program yourself.

Ploopy Nano 2 contains a PAW-3222 sensor capable of polling at speeds exceeding 1,000 per second. A browser tab allows you to adjust the sensitivity from 1,000 to 4,000 counts per inch. A Raspberry Pi RP2040 brain runs open-source QMK code, allowing the button to be left-click, middle-click, or a macro that opens your email with a single press.

The company prints each case on its own machinery. Order black, white, red, or teal, or download the files and print them in neon pink. Break a bearing housing? Print a fresh one in 10 minutes. If the original plastic ball feels too light, swap it out for glass or steel. Every screw, every PCB trace, and every line of firmware is available on GitHub with permissions that allow you to fork, mod, or remix forever. At 62x54x49mm, the Nano 2 fits next to a split keyboard or in your coat pocket. When you plug the USB-C connection into any computer, whether Windows, Mac, or Linux, it appears as a regular mouse.

Scroll a spreadsheet with your thumb, keeping your fingers on the home row. Push a Photoshop brush across a 4K canvas from the couch. Rest your wrist on a train tray and you’ll still hit every pixel. The Nano 2 automates those embarrassing situations. The GitHub repository includes STEP files for the casing, KiCad files for the PCB, and a single drag-and-drop firmware file. Flash in 5 seconds, visit the VIA web app, drag the button to any key, save, and you’re done. Ten minutes later, you’ve got a mouse that no one sells.

Ploopy sells the finished product for $59 CAD, which is around $42 USD. This results in a device that has already been flashed, tested, and packed, complete with a red ball inserted. Do you want blue or black? Choose that option at checkout, and the shipment departs Ontario the next working day.
