Russia’s Defense Ministry announced today that the new “Peresvet” laser weapons systems has been put on combat duty. Since Vladimir Putin has shrouded the Peresvet program in secrecy, not much is known about the technology, other than the military personnel operating those systems underwent special training at the Mozhaysky Military Space Academy in Russia’s second largest city of St. Petersburg. “As combat units trained using this advanced weaponry, they learned and practiced their deployment and preparations for use,” said the newspaper Krasnaya Zvezda.
