Piaggio, an Italian company, best known for making Vespa scooters since the 1940s, launched a Boston-based subsidiary called Piaggio Fast Forward (PFF) to dive into robotics and smart mobility a few years ago. Their latest release, the G1T4-M1N1 is a Star Wars-themed cargo-carrying robot launched just in time for Star Wars Day (May 4, 2025).
It’s basically a special edition of their Gitamini robot, designed to look and sound like an astromech droid (R2-D2) from the Star Wars universe. This compact, self-balancing droid comes complete with a yellow-and-white paint job and Star Wars-inspired decals. It uses cameras, radar, and sensors to autonomously follow its owner at up to 6 mph, carrying up to 20 pounds of cargo in its bin (about 17.9 x 16.5 x 18.9 inches).

G1T4-M1N1 has a built-in Bluetooth speaker for playing music, a USB charging port, and a battery that lasts seven hours. It also makes R2-D2-style beeps and boops, thanks to a partnership with Lucasfilm to capture the real Star Wars feel. You can use the mygita app to name it, check the battery, or lock the cargo bin.
This droid is pitched as a “loyal companion” for Star Wars fans, blending collectible nostalgia with practical use. It’s great for carrying groceries, gear, or even a lightsaber (as some reviews jokingly note), but it’s not perfect—it can struggle with cluttered floors or big obstacles and needs human help with stairs. Still, it’s a hit for fans who want a real-life droid to follow them around, especially with its Star Wars flair.

It’s not cheap—priced at $2,875 (about $400 more than the standard Gitamini at $2,475), with shipping and tax pushing it near $3,100. You can buy it on DisneyStore online or from the company directly, and it’s being demoed at the Disney Store in Times Square from May 2-6, 2025.
Collaborating with Disney and Lucasfilm on this Star Wars-inspired robot was a natural fit because their legacy of creative storytelling aligns perfectly with our team’s mission. PFF turns everyday mobility challenges into opportunities for connection and exploration. Star Wars has inspired generations with its imaginative galaxy and futuristic droids assisting humans with everyday tasks, matching our vision for the future of robotics,” said Greg Lynn, Piaggio Fast Forward CEO.
