After numerous rumors about delays, Raspberry Pi 5 was officially revealed today. Priced from $40 (4GB variant), this model is over twice as fast as its predecessor, and it’s the first Raspberry Pi computer to use silicon designed in‑house.
Featuring a 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit Arm Cortex-A76 CPU, a VideoCore VII GPU that supports OpenGL ES 3.1 / Vulkan 1.2, dual 4Kp60 HDMI display output, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, a high-speed microSD card interface with SDR104 mode support, two USB 3.0 ports, two USB 2.0 ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and two 4-lane MIPI camera/display transceivers. Despite all of these improvements, Raspberry Pi 5 still retains its credit card-sized form factor, but adds a pair of FPC connectors, in the space formerly occupied by the four-pole jack and camera connector. It will be available for purchase by the end of October at latest.

In parallel with the final stages of the Raspberry Pi 5 program, our software team has been busy developing a new version of Raspberry Pi OS, the official first-party operating system for Raspberry Pi devices. This is based on the most recent release of Debian (and its derivative Raspbian), codenamed ‘Bookworm’, and incorporates numerous enhancements, notably the transition from X11 to the Wayfire Wayland compositor on Raspberry Pi 4 and 5,” said Eben Upton, CEO of Raspberry Pi.
