With the TikTok ban expected to commence on Sunday in the US, another Chinese social media app, called RedNote, soars to the top of the Apple App Store charts. The Supreme Court is likely to uphold a national-security law that will shut down the video-sharing app if it continues to be controlled by its Chinese parent company, ByteDance Ltd., later this week.
Called “Xiaohongshu” in China, this platform is essentially Pinterest meets Instagram, touted as a dynamic lifestyle platform for young people to share experiences, explore a real, beautiful, and diverse world, and find the lifestyle they desire. The Shanghai-based company first launched the app in 2013, and has increasingly challenged Alibaba and Douyin (TikTok in China). Currently, it has around 300 million monthly active users. You can download it here on the App Store.
