Running modern games like Minecraft on Windows XP is possible, thanks to One Core API, but not recommended. Why? You’re essentially tricking modern applications and games into thinking they’re running on a supported OS by translating their system calls into something XP can handle, rather than have it run natively.
One Core API includes support for DirectX 10 and 11 via a WineD3D-based implementation, which is a big deal since XP officially never went past DirectX 9. This means games requiring DirectX 11—like some mid-2010s titles—might theoretically launch. Some users have reported getting games like Minecraft (up to 1.16) or Beat Hazard working with decent frame rates on XP, but you’ll have to deal with a lot of crashes.
