The second-generation Apple HomePod was unveiled today, and it comes packed with support for Spatial Audio tracks as well as enhanced Siri capabilities. Available in white and midnight colors, it features an acoustically transparent mesh fabric, along with a backlit touch surface that lights up from edge to edge.
Acoustically, it sports a custom-engineered high-excursion woofer, powerful motor that drives the 20mm, built-in bass-EQ mic, and a beamforming array of five tweeters around the base. It’s powered by Apple’s S7 chip, combined with software and system-sensing technology to provide even more advanced computational audio. HomePod uses its room sensing technology recognize sound and reflections from nearby surfaces to adapt sound in real time. Pair two or more HomePod or HomePod Mini speakers together for multiroom audio or just to create a stereo experience. Available February 3, priced at $299 USD.
