Slow Mo Guys Exploding Capacitor 187,000FPS
The Slow Mo Guys are back at it again, and this time, they managed to capture exploding capacitors at 187,500 frames per second. For those who don’t already know, a capacitor is essentially a device capable of storing electrical energy in an electric field. Gavin and Dan wanted to record what happens when you overload capacitors, capturing all of the destruction with a Phantom TMX 7510 high-speed camera.

The Phantom TMX 7510 can easily handle 187,500 fps, as it recording shattering glass at 800,000 fps, but to achieve these speeds, the camera must record at 1280 x 320 resolution. However, if you don’t mind fuzzy images, the camera is capable of recording footage at up to 1,750,000 fps. As you can see, these capacitors only look small, as their explosions put on quite a show, with some boasting a self-venting safety feature.
