Austria-based Solarcont has just launched Solarcontainer, a shipping container-sized device that lets you set up a mobile solar power plant just about anywhere. This grid-independent solution is ideal for use in remote areas, as it can ensure a stable energy supply or even replace a public grid with strong power fluctuations.
Measuring approximately 6m x 2.4m x 2.9m and weighing in at a hefty 20 tons, Solarcontainer consists of 240 solar modules securely attached to an innovative folding system that can be easily stored when not in use. It boasts a capacity of up to 140 kW and can extend over a total length of 120 meters (60 meters per side), which results in a maximum possible solar area of around 720 m².

The use of multiple modules to increase the solar yield offers flexible scaling of the system, which can also be combined with battery systems and other energy storage devices,” said Solarcont.
