Long before USB monitors like the Mobile Pixel DUEX, there was Sony’s Color Watchman (FDT-5BX5) from 1995. This portable TV boasts a 5″ CRT screen that uses a Slot-Mask Picture Tube manufactured by Samsung rather than one by Sony.
Sony made over 65 models of the Watchman from 1982 – 2000, and as they progressed, display size was increased as well as new features were added. Unfortunately, most Sony Watchman models can no longer be used to receive live television broadcasts due to the switch to digital broadcasting, that is unless you have a digital converter box. Eventually, the Sony Color Watchman was shrunk down to a pocket-sized device (FDL-22) in 1998. You can actually still find working FDT-5BX5 units on eBay once in a while priced between $150-$250+ depending on condition.
