Stranger Things has been a cultural giant since 2016, mixing 80s vibes with supernatural scares and a cast that feels like family. With the fifth and final season on the horizon, Netflix’s latest teaser delivers a nostalgic punch and a chilling hint of what’s coming.
Netflix has announced Season 5 will be released in three parts, just like Season 4. Volume 1 with 4 episodes drops November 26, 2025 (just in time for Thanksgiving in the US). Volume 2 with 3 episodes on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025. The finale, 1 episode, on New Year’s Eve, December 31, 2025 at 5pm PT for all volumes.

Set in fall 1987, Season 5 picks up after the chaos of Season 4 where Vecna’s attack tore Hawkins apart with interdimensional rifts. The official synopsis sets the stage: “Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna. But he has vanished—his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has put the town under military quarantine and is hunting Eleven harder than ever. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance approaches, so does the heavy, familiar dread.” This is a town under siege, with higher stakes than ever.
The cast is stacked, with returning stars Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, and Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler. Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Cara Buono, and Jamie Campbell Bower as Vecna are back too. Newcomers include Linda Hamilton as the mysterious Doctor Kay, Nell Fisher as Holly Wheeler, Jake Connelly as Derek Turnbow, and Alex Breaux as Lieutenant Akers. Amybeth McNulty, who played Vickie in Season 4, is a series regular this season, so we can expect a bigger role in the fight against Vecna.
The Duffer Brothers have gone all in on this final season. Back in Season 1 they wrote a 25 page document about the Upside Down, many of which are still secrets. Ross Duffer said “the last remaining questions in that document we’ve punted a couple of those to have some big reveals in Season 5”. This means we’ll finally get answers to the alternate dimension’s mysteries, which is reflected in the teaser’s focus on the Upside Down’s growing threat. With the Duffer Brothers, executive producer Shawn Levy and directors like Dan Trachtenberg and Frank Darabont, this 8 episode season is going for cinematic. Maya Hawke called it “the equivalent of 8 movies” with each episode feeling like a blockbuster.
