Think of Tetra Aviation’s Mk-5 as an electric, single-seat flying bike of sorts. Featuring a chassis made from aluminum and carbon-fiber-reinforced polymers (CFRP) that measures measures 28 feet wide by 20 feet long by 7 feet high, it weighs in at just 1,000 pounds and comes equipped with some 32 vertical rotors on four fixed-wing planes as well as one horizontal thrust at the rear.
Power comes from a 13.5 kWh battery that is good for a top speed of 100 mph and a range of 100 miles when fully charged. It’s more similar to a flying bike rather than a place because the cockpit only accommodates one person with just a single joystick and semiautomatic fly-by-wire electrical controls. Expect shipments to begin as early as 2022 in kit form.
