Tiny PS5 Redux Console Mod
Erick from Not From Concentrate spent months shrinking Sony’s PlayStation 5 into a 6-litre aluminum box. He calls it the Tiny PS5 Redux. Builders can now download his guide and build their own. The finished machine sits between two full-size PS5s like a child flanked by parents, yet it plays the same games at lower temperatures.

The outer shell is aluminum, with a fingerprint-resistant matte Cerakote coating. Dark acrylic panels on both sides display the motherboard and fans without drawing attention. A polished pocket handle goes along one edge. The top plate is held in place by four magnets; simply lift it off to dust the heatsink in seconds. The spring-loaded power and eject buttons poke through precise holes. USB ports are located beside them.

Erick preserved the factory PS5 heatsink plates but installed an Alpenföhn Black Ridge cooler. Two 120 mm slim Noctua fans push air across it, while a third draws new air from behind. Three 60 mm Noctua fans release heat via the pocket handle. A 3D-printed shroud with deep channels and a neoprene gasket seal the passage. Hot air never loops back. During a long session of Expedition 33 on quality settings, the Redux averaged 50 °C and consumed less than 220 watts. The stock PS5 reached 59 °C at 230-235 watts. The original 3.3-liter Tiny PS5 ran at 56 degrees Celsius. Frame drops have disappeared.

Wireless signals used to fail within metal walls. Erick relocated the Wi-Fi antenna behind the top acrylic panel and installed fold-down Bluetooth antennas in the back. Lag has evaporated. Storage increased from two TB 2230 disks to a full four TB 2280 SSD on an extension wire with its own heatsink.

Small builds are complicated by disc drives, so Erick removed the mechanical guts while keeping the control board powered and connected behind the motherboard. Firmware updates occur while the drive is still spinning. The console is all digital and free of clutter. The initial Tiny PS5 suffered from a power issue. During intensive gaming, a 250-watt GaN supply would shut down. Erick replaced the unit with a 500-watt unit, and crashes were no longer possible.

A matching charging dock completes the ensemble. Magnetic pogo pins connect the controller, which is supported by a steel base to prevent tipping. The files for the 1215A PS5 model are available on NFC’s Patreon. Send aluminum parts to SendCutSend, print plastic pieces at home, solder a few wires, and you’ll have your own Redux. Patience and a steady hand are more important than sophisticated tools.

Erick created the Redux to test ideas such as improved intake, cleaner exhaust, and seamless digital conversion. He’s releasing the plans because people have asked him to. Five years after the PS5’s release, someone finally got it compact enough to tote without embarrassment and cool enough to trust for extended periods.
