5. Octopush

Octopush, also known as underwater hockey, is an extreme sport that’s actually played all over the world. In this sport, two teams of ten use snorkels and sticks to push a puck into an underwater goal. Yes, there are still referees, a governing body, and a plethora of devoted “Octopusher” fans. It was invented in Great Britain during the 1950’s when a few divers were looking for an unusual ways to get exercise during the winter.

4. Cliff Diving

Believe it or not, cliff diving is an official extreme sport. Competition height restrictions are fixed at 26m, and only when rescue scuba divers are available to be stationed in the water. However, competitors tend to ignore safety rules these safety rules. The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series used the roof of the Institute of Contemporary Art as their diving board, which is approximately 27.43m above Boston Harbor.

3. Wife Carrying

Wife carrying is an extreme sport that you’ve probably never heard about, in which male competitors race while each carrying a female teammate. The objective is for the male to carry the female through a special obstacle track in the fastest time. The sport was first introduced at Sonkajarvi, Finland.

2. Xarm

Art Davie may be best known as a business executive and entrepreneur formerly active in Southern California advertising circles, but his latest venture XARM, is one of the weirdest extreme sports ever. It’s basically a hybrid sport that combines kickboxing and arm wrestling – contested across a 28 in x 16 in (71 cm x 41 cm) table, adjustable for height from 34 to 46 in (0.86 to 1.2 m). Bouts consist of three one minute rounds, with a one minute rest period between rounds. Athletes are allowed one second to accompany and assist them table-side.

1. Volcano Boarding

Volcano boarding, also known as ash boarding or volcano surfing is a relatively new sport that consists of an erupted volcano and a thin plywood or metal board. Riders hike up the volcano and slide down, sitting or standing. It’s considered an “extreme sport” because of the danger of falling off and getting cut by the rough volcanic ash. Competitors use protective gear like jump suits and goggles to keep themselves from getting injured.

Honorable Mention – Slacklining

Unlike tightrope walking, Slacklining utilizes a line that is not held rigidly taut (although it is still under some tension); it is instead dynamic, stretching and bouncing like a long and narrow trampoline. The line’s tension can be adjusted to suit the user and different types of webbing can be used to achieve a variety of feats.
