Toyota TR010 Hybrid Le Mans Hypercar
Toyota has just unveiled the TR010 Hybrid, its new competitor in the FIA World Endurance Championship. This new car replaces the GR010 Hybrid, which dominated early Hypercar races and won Le Mans in 2021 and 22.

The TR010’s arrival is more than simply a new car, as Toyota is also making significant modifications to its motorsport setup. Their European racing division is being rebranded as TOYOTA RACING GmbH, signaling the end of the Gazoo Racing era. Starting in 2026, the team will just compete as TOYOTA RACING, which sounds very familiar. They made a deliberate decision to preserve Gazoo Racing as a separate organization focused on performance road vehicles, while endurance racing will continue to be run under the Toyota label.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the TR010 is how different it appears from its predecessor. The engineering team has given it a thorough overhaul. The front of the automobile now has wheel arches that integrate perfectly with the rest of the nose, resulting in smoother airflow. The new headlights are identical to those on some of Toyota’s most recent road cars, and the car now has a crisper, more modern appearance. The sidepods have also been changed, and out back is a fully new wing with larger endplates, as well as some tweaks to the diffuser for good measure.

Toyota made the most of the evolution tokens provided under the Hypercar regulations, resulting in all of these alterations. After five seasons with the GR010 that were mostly untouched, this is the first substantial redesign they’ve been allowed to perform since 2023. They’ve already tested the new bodywork at Paul Ricard and Qatar to get the most performance out of it.

Underneath the new exterior is the same powerplant as before, with a twin-turbocharged V6 engine situated in the center of the car and a hybrid system that provides an electric boost through the front axle. And, as before, the total output is limited to roughly 671 horsepower as part of the Balance of Performance scheme, which keeps things equal across the various manufacturers. There have been no changes to the mechanics, with the emphasis being on making sure the car is as aerodynamically efficient as possible and that the drivers receive the feedback they require.

The TR010 drivers are the same as before: Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries will drive car number 7, while Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley, and Ryo Hirakawa will drive car number 8. All of this continuity will come in helpful as the squad strives to return to the top.

However, the Hypercar class will become even more competitive in the future year. Ferrari has had a bit of a comeback in the last three years, winning Le Mans and the constructors title in 2025 and pushing Toyota to second place, despite Toyota’s late-season victory in Bahrain. Toyota’s TR010 Hybrid is an attempt to make it more consistent and easier to drive, because tiny increases over 24 hours will ultimately count. It will debut at the Qatar 1812km in late March 2026, kicking off a complete season in the World Endurance Championship.
