While it may be a while until the tetrahertz camera is put to use in airports, TSA’s new Shoe Scanner may really speed things up when checking in for a flight. Put simply, after a passenger steps onto the shoe scanner, a harmless millimeter waves pass through the sole of the shoe and 3D data is sent to a computer for review.
The shoe scan takes only two seconds to complete, while the data processing is completed in around five seconds. In the future, the shoe scanner would be directly incorporated intp the floor of passenger screening systems so both passengers and their shoes can be screened at the same time. What better place to test this technology than at the world’s premier technology show, CES 2025, in Las Vegas? That’s exactly what some members of the press can check out for themselves, or at least until January 10th.
