A houseboat is nothing new, as people have been living on them for decades, but Jay Blackmore decided to take things to the next level. His two-story floating home was built entirely from scratch over 4-years and is completely off-grid with a solar power system. It spans 700-square-feet and includes a full kitchen, master bedroom, living / dining areas, two additional bedrooms on the second floor, as well as a bathroom with a composing toilet.
Now the biggest challenges that Jay faces while living on the floating home are basically just finding ways of transporting haul groceries, propane tanks, and fuel pellets. Why fuel pellets? Well, since he flouts around the icy waters of Canada during the winter, the pellets are used by the stove to heat the entire living space. A closed-loop greywater system recycles the water used from bathroom sinks and showers. However, Jay’s floating home may not compare to this floating mansion.

When I was thinking about what I wanted my life to look like over the next number of years, I wanted to be as close to the water as I could, so a floating home become a really viable option for me,” said Jay Blackmore.
