Unbox Therapy’s Lewis Hilsenteger tore open an unassuming box shipped from China, and inside was a dummy unit of Apple’s purported foldable iPhone Ultra. In its opened form, it becomes a large tablet-like rectangular device, but when folded in half, it becomes like a passport that can fit into one’s back pocket. Its dimensions are 117mm high, 84mm wide, 11mm thin on its narrowest side, and 16.5mm where the camera sticks out.
Hilsenteger took out his calipers to verify all those measurements, and then felt along the edges, discovering that its height is considerably shorter than that of the latest iPhones. On the other hand, it is considerably wider, making it appear bulky once folded. The camera bump (it can definitely be seen) juts out at the back, thus making this device virtually impossible to use on any flat surface, as it will start rocking back and forth. The camera bump sticks out, forming a small slope, seemingly purposefully, to allow Apple to fit large cameras in there without making the device top-heavy.

As you feel around the edges of the device, you’ll realize that the typical components like buttons and ports have interesting placements. The volume keys sit on the top edge of the smartphone and that’s normal. However, the speaker system sits on an area of the device that could be blocked accidentally while using the phone. The charging port sits on the edge of the phone, while the power key has been kept in the most awkward place possible, right under the place that your thumb will be hovering. When opened up, the device measures 5.2 millimeters in width, a measurement that isn’t that different from the iPhone Air.
