8BitMods’ VMU Pro is a cool update to the SEGA Dreamcast’s original VMU, turning it into a versatile gadget that doesn’t just save game progress but also plays old-school 8-bit games from systems like the Game Boy Color, NES, and Master System on a vivid 16-bit color IPS TFT screen.
Introducing the VMU Pro. The last VMU you'll ever need for your Dreamcast.
But it's not just for your Dreamcast. The VMU Pro can emulate your favourite 8-bit era handhelds and games consoles like the Game Boy Color, NES and Master System on a beautiful 16-bit color IPS TFT… pic.twitter.com/UGbUfbid3w

It’s not just a 3D-printed case either—it works with original VMUs, so you can plug it into a Dreamcast controller to store game saves like before. It has a rechargeable battery, fixing the old VMU’s problem of quickly draining batteries when used on its own.
- Pay tribute to the classic Sonic the Hedgehog video game and recapture the magic in LEGO style with this brick-built version of the famous game level
- Includes a Sonic the Hedgehog LEGO minifigure, Dr. Eggman with buildable Eggmobile, Moto Bug with 2 face options, and Crabmeat figures
- Push the lever and launch the LEGO Sonic minifigure for Super Sonic jumps to evade the Bug and Crabmeat LEGO Sonic figures and collect the rings

It also comes with extras like Wi-Fi, MP3 playback, and unlimited storage through microSD cards, making it much more useful than the original. The VMU Pro is part of a growing trend of bringing retro gaming back to life by blending modern tech with classic gaming gear to keep the experience alive and add new features.

8BitMods, the company making the VMU Pro, is known for creating upgraded memory cards, like the MemCard Pro for other consoles, showing they’re all about improving retro gaming. Pre-orders start on May 15, with the price still to be announced.

Talking about the VMU, did you know the original wasn’t only for saving game progress? It could also download and play mini-games. For example, games like “Chao Adventure” from the Sonic Adventure series let players care for virtual pets while away from the console.
