“Merry Christmas” is reportedly the first SMS ever sent, and it just sold for a whopping €132,680 ($150,094 USD) as an NFT at auction. This message was reportedly sent on the Vodafone network way back in December 1992 and all proceeds raised from this sale will be donated to the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.
Vodafone basically wanted to combine decades old technology with the blockchain innovations of today. The winner of this exclusive NFT guarantees ownership to a one-of-a-kind replica of the first SMS ever transmitted. This auction took place in Paris on December 21, 2021 by Aguttes, the first independent auction house in France. More information here.
