Volkswagen Bulli Klv-20 T1 Rail Car
It’s not everyday that you see a classic Volkswagen Bulli, much less one that has been turned into a rail car. Meet the Klv-20 T1, which combines a standard VW T1 bus with a work vehicle for Germany’s federal railway, Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB).

Originally developed in 1954, the Klv-20 combines a T1 Kombi van body and a rail chassis with running gear, all powered by a 28-hp Volkswagen industrial engine. Thanks to a hydraulic lift-turning mechanism, the car can quickly be lifted, turned 180 degrees and then positioned back on the tracks by a single person, thus eliminating the need for a reverse ear. Volkswagen showcased this restored Klv-20 during its International VW Bus Day in June.
