A Tesla Model 3 Performance may be nice now, but the Volkswagen ID.X Performance wants to give it a run for its money. Power comes from a dual electric motor setup consisting of a permanently excited synchronous motor on the rear axle with an additional asynchronous motor on the front axle that generates a combined 550hp.
The dual-motor drive is supplied by the drive battery, which enables high continuous power output and short charging times with a charging capacity of up to 200 kW. Why is this setup better? It offers short-time overload capability and particularly low drag losses, which means short-term power in the form of a boost function. Drivers can also manage the drive torque via a Vehicle Dynamics Manager, controlled on a separate display with 6.7 inch screen in the center console. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability, but you can see it in person at the international ID. Treffen today (Sep.9).
