North American Wave Engine Corporation successfully demonstrated their unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with no moving parts. That’s right, power comes from a 50+ lbf (222+ N) thrust wave engine, complete with remote instant start on liquid fuel.
The company completed several multiple mid-air starts and operated its engines at airspeeds of up to 200 mph. Wave Engine Corporation also showcased Thrust Specific Fuel Consumption (TSFC) levels under 2.0 lbs/lbf-hr to rival the efficiency of turbine-based engines. After the test, the company launched their 50+ lbf thrust J-1 engine for potential partners.
