Most know that ‘Me at the Zoo’, uploaded to YouTube on April 23, 2005, is officially the platform’s oldest video, but recently a ‘Welcome to YouTube‘ clip claims to have premiered on April 6, 2005. This 48-second video is just a static image of the YouTube logo and listing its co-founders’ names below with ‘Jump’ by Van Halen looping in the background.
Internet sleuths determined that this entire channel is a hoax since it appears to have been established in September 2005, despite the ‘Welcome to YouTube’ video supposedly being uploaded months earlier in April. Plus, there was no way to upload 480p resolution videos to the platform until 2008, which is also why ‘Me at the Zoo’ can only be viewed in 240p. If you inspect the video’s metadata, you’ll see that it was actually uploaded on January 25, 2023.
