Worlds Smallest Playable DOOM Device Game Console
Adafruit specializes in tiny computers and their latest project just might be the world’s smallest playable DOOM device. It’s based on their QT Py ESP32 Pico board running a port of Retro-Go and is capable of loading a shareware DOOM1.WAD file off of a microSD card. Officially called “Pinky,” this palm-sized game console features a 1.3″ TFT IPS (240×240 resolution) display. ESP32 Pico v3 02, dual Tensilica 240 MHz core w/2MB PSRAM, 8MB of Flash memory, microSD card slot, and an AW9523 GPIO expander for 10 buttons.

First released in 1993, DOOM is considered by many to be one of the pioneering first-person shooter games that included 3D graphics, third-dimension spatiality, networked multiplayer gameplay, and support for player-created modifications with the Doom WAD format. To date, the DOOM series has sold over 10 million copies of games, while spawning numerous sequels, novels, comic books, board games, and film adaptations.
