When you think of the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Germany’s grueling 20.9-kilometer crucible of curves and straights, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra doesn’t usually come to mind. However, the blistering EV managed to achieve a record lap time of 7 minutes, 4.957 seconds at the famed circuit. This blistering run shattered the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT’s 2023 record of 7:07.55.
This couldn’t have been done with just anyone, and there’s where veteran racer Vincent Radermecker comes in. He piloted the SU7 Ultra, harnessing its mind-blowing 1,548 horsepower. Three electric motors—dual V8s units, each delivering 578 hp, and a V6s adding 392 hp—propel this beast, backed by a 93.7 kWh CATL Qilin II battery with a 5.2 C charging rate. Zero to 60 mph vanishes in 1.98 seconds, and the car surges past 217 mph.

In October 2024, the SU7 Ultra prototype, driven by British racer David Pittard, blazed a 6:46.874 lap, earning the title of fastest four-door car at the Nürburgring. As a prototype, it couldn’t claim production honors, but Xiaomi doubled down, refining the production model at tracks like Chengdu Tianfu and Zhejiang International, where it already held four-door supremacy. “This is a miracle and a new beginning,” Xiaomi EV proclaimed on Weibo post-prototype, a sentiment that fueled the production car’s triumph.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder, chairman, and CEO, captures the audacity behind this feat: “As a newcomer to the automotive industry, Xiaomi has shown great determination and courage by taking on the Nürburgring challenge with its first car.” His words, shared via Weibo, reveal a company unafraid to spar with Porsche or Tesla. Priced at RMB 529,900 ($72,750), the SU7 Ultra positions itself as a “Dream Car” for performance enthusiasts.
An optional RMB 100,000 ($13,912) Racing Package upgrades shock absorbers, brake pads, and tires, making the SU7 Ultra a direct rival to the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, which costs nearly four times as much.
The company is planting a bold flag in the automotive world at Germany’s legendary Nürburgring racetrack. As the company puts it, “Xiaomi plans a long-term presence at the Nürburgring, aiming to collaborate and advance alongside the world’s leading automotive manufacturers.” They’re backing it up with a branded curve on the Grand Prix circuit and exclusive testing rights, rubbing shoulders with the biggest names in the car industry.
