Zac Builds PS5 Console Built Into Desk
Zac from Zac Builds encountered a classic gamer problem: his PS5, with its spaceship design, was sticking out like a sore thumb in his home office. Instead of letting the console’s bold design steal the show, he came up with a plan to hide it in style. His solution? Disassemble the PS5 and put it in a custom built wooden desk that’s as practical as it is pretty.

Zac started with a beautiful handmade wooden desk that would house both his PS5 and PC in side by side drawers – a genius way to keep his office clean and clutter free while having everything within reach. The desk’s warm wood tones were already a far cry from the PS5’s white curves and sharp edges. By putting the console inside, Zac made it disappear into the background and all he was left with was a nice desk to look at.

Taking apart the PS5 was no easy task. Zac carefully disassembled the console, splitting it into pieces to fit into a custom drawer without breaking anything delicate like the motherboard or cooling system. He mapped out every piece to make sure it would work perfectly in its new home and the PS5 would run as smooth as ever. Ventilation was key so he designed the drawer to allow for airflow and the console would stay cool during long gaming sessions.

Cooling was a big challenge. The PS5’s stock fan is notorious for being loud and Zac’s office is quiet. He swapped it out for three Noctua case fans, known for being whisper quiet and super efficient. Placed just right in the drawer, these fans kept the PS5 cool even when playing demanding games.

Functionality got some love too. The PS5’s power and disc eject buttons – infamous for being too similar and easy to mix up – got a smart upgrade. Zac moved them to a more convenient spot on the desk so each button is crystal clear to avoid oops moments. He also tweaked the Blu-ray drive’s slot and added a guide so inserting discs is a breeze.

Wiring was another puzzle Zac solved. He rerouted the PS5’s cables to hide them, weaving them through the desk’s frame. HDMI and power cords were tucked away so nothing gave away the console’s secret spot. The disc drive is fully functional so Zac can swap games without having to dig into the console’s guts. And it’s not just the PS5 – his desk also has a PC in a nearby drawer so it’s a dual purpose setup. Both systems use the same cooling and wiring so the desk is a single cohesive piece of art rather than a hack job.
