Have $14,000 burning a hole in your pocket and lots of land? You can actually buy a 2-story luxury flat-pack container home on Amazon, complete with a garage. However, there are some major drawbacks including not having a bathroom, or at least the way it ships. Put simply, their descriptions leave a lot to be desired, unlike this real Airbnb shipping container home.
Aside from the vague description, which states that it has a modular design for easy assembly and portability, along with ample living space, we don’t know exactly what kind of material the containers are made of. If you throw that out the window, even legitimate container homes being offered on Amazon require additional investments, such as land purchase, foundation work, utility hookups, and permits.

What does this mean? Your initial investment of $14,000 could balloon up by double or triple the buying price, negating any perceived savings. One example could be ensuring compliance with local building codes, which may require further expensive modifications, especially if the home is not designed for permanent residential use.
