There’s 3D-printed salmon filet, and then this sphere machine, which is designed to make near perfect wooden spheres, sort of. Modder Fraens 3D-printed a machine that consists of three gear motors set 120 degrees apart driving cup-shaped grinding pads that polish a wooden sphere down rather than form it.
A triangular frame with springs that pre-load the arms help maintain a constant pressure, while three sandpaper-equipped grinding pads constantly turn and wears down the surface until it achieves the final diameter. One thing to note is that 3D-printed parts just aren’t meant to withstand the wear and tear of creating wooden spheres, so we don’t expect this machine to last more than a few uses.
