Matternet Home Drone Delivery Silicon Valley
Matternet announced today that it has commenced their home drone delivery service in Silicon Valley, after running an initial pilot in August. It utilizes a variant of the Matternet M2 Drone Delivery platform, the only Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type Certified platform for drone delivery in the US.

To make sure packages remain safe, it leverages Matternet’s Tether Drop system, which enables operators to lower packages directly to customers’ doorsteps. The entire process is fully automated: drones are loaded at a central hub, fly to the customer’s home, and then descend safely above a customer drop zone. Once the destination is reached, the drone releases the package via the tether. Drones then automatically return to the hub, swap batteries and then pick up a new package, all in under 60 seconds.
