At the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, BMW introduced its Concept Speedtop, a three-door shooting brake restricted to just 70 units, blending daring design with exquisite craftsmanship. While its appearance might seem “unusual” to some, this isn’t BMW’s first venture into bold, mold-breaking concepts.
With a stretched hood, pinched waist, and beefy shoulders, it strikes a balance of raw power and refined elegance, channeling the vibe of a classic shooting brake built for thrilling drives and stylish getaways. “A true BMW exudes dynamism and elegance even when it’s standing still,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “The BMW Concept Speedtop is characterized first of all by its profile. It is very unique in the automotive industry.”

Step inside, and the Speedtop’s interior feels like a tailored suit. The cabin, designed for two, prioritizes luxury and detail. Leather covers the BMW Concept Speedtop’s interior, from seats to trunk, with brogue-style perforations and a Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White two-tone scheme that ties into the exterior, while a headliner light beam mirrors the roof’s spline for a soft glow. BMW teamed with Schedoni for custom leather bags that fit neatly behind the seats and in the trunk. “Schedoni has always stood for the highest quality and customization,” notes a BMW press release.

Performance isn’t an afterthought. The Speedtop packs BMW’s most powerful V8 engine, and while exact specs remain undisclosed, this powerplant ensures the car isn’t just a pretty face. “The concept car’s engine ensures it scales the heights not only in terms of design, but also performance,” says Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President of BMW Brand and Product Management.

The Speedtop’s unconventional design—its elongated body, sharp angles, and bold color gradient—might raise eyebrows, but it’s rooted in BMW’s history of pushing boundaries. The car draws inspiration from icons like the BMW 503 and Z8, blending retro cues with futuristic flair. Its 14-spoke, two-tone wheels and shark-nose front aren’t random; they’re calculated to stand out in a sea of predictable luxury cars.
While pricing remains undisclosed, expect it to dwarf the M8 Coupe’s €185,400 price tag in Germany, reflecting its bespoke nature. For non-motorheads, it’s like a rare piece of art you can drive—a blend of style, power, and exclusivity that turns a weekend trip into an event. As BMW phases out the 8 Series by 2026, the Speedtop might be its grand finale, a collector’s item destined to be remembered.
Last year, the presentation of the BMW Concept Skytop at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on Lake Como generated great enthusiasm among connoisseurs and automotive enthusiasts. This led to a strictly limited production run of 50 units. Thanks to this positive response, this year we have decided to also offer the BMW Concept Speedtop in a limited production series of 70 units. This extraordinary vehicle is now available for order. We are pleased to be able to offer collectors and enthusiasts another exclusive model,” said Bernd Körber, Senior Vice President BMW Brand and Product Management.
