Google’s Gemini AI just pulled off some magic for your photo collection, turning stills into 8 second video clips. Rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in select regions, this feature uses the Veo 3 video model to add motion, sound effects and even dialogue to your snaps. It’s big into generative AI and everyone’s getting creative.
Getting started is easy. Fire up the Gemini app or web interface, go to the “tools” menu and select “video”. Upload a photo – maybe your dog mid-yawn, a sunset from your last trip or a sketch from your notebook. Then tell it what you want to see move – waves rolling in or your dog’s tail wagging crazy. You can even pick sounds – birds chirping or characters talking. Google’s Veo 3 spits out an 8 second, 720p MP4 video in 16:9 format. “You can get wild animating everyday stuff, bringing drawings to life or making nature scenes dance,” Google says in a blog post, hyping up the tool’s endless possibilities.

Behind the magic is Veo 3, a video model released in May 2025 that knows how the real world moves. It gets lifelike motion and loves detailed prompts – the more you spell out the closer it gets to your dream clip. Imagine this: you type “a voxel-style ice cream melting under a bright blue sky, pink and grey scoops dripping down a yellow cone” and boom, you get a vibrant, pixel perfect video that’s spot on.
It’s not perfect though. Videos are 8 seconds and 720p which might limit some styles. There’s also a daily cap – 3 videos for AI Pro ($20/month) and 5 for Ultra ($250/month). But the results are a hit – over 40 million Veo 3 videos in 7 weeks.
Google’s all about keeping it safe and real. Every video has a visible watermark and an invisible SynthID digital tag to scream “AI-made” to tackle deepfakes and fake news. “We’re working hard behind the scenes to make sure this is a safe, fun ride,” Google promises. From bringing old photos to life to sci-fi landscapes or multi-scene epics, this is a playground for creators, influencers and marketers. As Brendan Gahan, CEO of Creator Authority, says to The Washington Post, “AI video tools like this save creators from tech headaches so they can focus on their audience.”
