The Lucid Air Dream Edition may not yet be available for purchase, but the company took a prototype to the dragstrip recently, and it just might be worth the wait. It makes over 1,080 hp from its two electric motors, enabling it to complete the quarter mile in a mere 9.9 seconds, or 0.7 seconds quicker than the Tesla Model S Performance with the Raven powertrain. On a full charge, you can expect an impressive 517 miles of driving range. Read more for the video and additional information.
Unlike normal EVs, the Lucid Air utilizes in-house developed permanent magnet electric motors with an inverter and an integrated transmission that send power to a 900V+ electric drive unit, each of these drive units pack over 650 hp. That’s not all, it also has vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability, which enables you to use the car’s lithium-ion battery to power your house in case of an emergency.
