Antonov An-225 Mriya Heaviest Aircraft Microsoft Flight Simulator
Microsoft Flight Simulator fans rejoice! The Antonov An-225 Mriya, the world’s heaviest aircraft, can now be flown in-game as of today. This aircraft started as the An-124 Ruslan in 1985, classified as the “Mk. 401″ project, before being named the An-225 later, since it could carry up to 225 tons of cargo.

Initially, two An-225 aircraft were slated for production, but Antonov only manated to build one. Its maiden voyage took place on December 21, 1988 and was officially crowned heaviest aircraft ever to fly. During a subsequent flight that took place on March 22nd, 1989, the AN-225 set 110 world records simultaneously, resulting in another record on top of those. Available now in the Microsoft Flight Simulator in-game marketplace on PC for $19.99 USD, with all proceeds going to the Antonov Corporation to rebuild the An-225. The An-225 hits Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Cloud Gaming late next month.

Tragically, on February 27, 2022, the Mriya was attacked during the Russian invasion of Ukraine and rendered unusable. Tentative plans are to bring the Mriya to the sky again by piecing together parts of the destroyed An-225 with those of the airframe that was never completed,” said Jorg Neumann, Head of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
