Holiday travel season arrives with packed airports, delayed flights, and the constant risk that a checked bag ends up on the wrong carousel or a set of keys slips between seats in a rental car. A 4-pack of second-generation AirTags, priced at $69.99 today (was $99), addresses those ordinary losses by attaching a small disk to each important item and then reporting its location through Apple’s Find My network of nearby phones and tablets.
Each tag measures 1.26 inches across and 0.31 inches thick, weighs only 0.42 ounces, and has an IP67 classification, which means it can withstand a quick dunk or a dusty bag pocket. A regular CR2032 coin cell runs the device for more than a year, and the iPhone tells the owner when a replacement is necessary, so the tag can be unscrewed, the battery swapped, and tracking resumed without the need for special tools or a charging cycle.

- EXPANDED PRECISION FINDING ON IPHONE AND APPLE WATCH — Get step-by-step directions to your lost item on iPhone and, now, Apple Watch.*
- ENHANCED SPEAKER — With a 50% louder speaker and a new, distinctive chime, it’s easier than ever to hear and find AirTag.*
Once you’ve paired the four tags with your iPhone by tapping them all at once, they’ll appear alongside your phone in the Find My app. One can fit in a luggage, another on your keyring, a third in your wallet, and the fourth fits comfortably into a bag. If any of these gadgets wanders out of range, the Find My app will display its last known location based on where other Apple devices in the vicinity have been. It’s also super handy that you can establish a temporary sharing link for up to 7 days. Simply give it to your travel buddy or, on over 50 airlines that partner with Apple, to the airline’s baggage team so they can keep track of your bag’s whereabouts while they’re looking for it.

Close-range recovery has improved thanks to a new and upgraded Ultra-Wideband chip in your iPhone 15 or later, which improves Precision Finding by around 50%. If you have an iPhone 15 or later, the app will display an arrow on the screen and the distance in feet, as well as haptic vibrations that become stronger as the phone approaches the tag. Thanks to the new hardware, reviewers discovered that you can still rely on the directional assistance out to 70 feet in an open space, which is far further than the first generation.

This works on Apple Watch Series 9 and later or Ultra 2 and after, just like on your iPhone, so even if you put your phone down, you can follow the arrow from your wrist while strolling through a crowded airport or hotel lobby. To make it even easier to find the tag, the redesigned speaker on the tag can play a much louder and clearer chime that is 50% more audible than before, making it easier to distinguish from background noise at the airport or in a noisy living room.

In daily use, the same four tags remove the small frustrations that accumulate outside travel. Keys left in a coat pocket at a restaurant can be pinged from the sidewalk. A wallet dropped under a car seat can be located by following the arrow across the parking lot. A backpack or bag left at a coffee shop registers on the map, allowing the owner to return before they close. Because location data is only viewable to the owner and anyone who has been explicitly permitted, and Apple does not keep a history of such reports, the system remains private despite drawing on the enormous network of iPhones that travel through airports, hotels, and city streets.
